Gabriel Lester: All The Murmur

Gabriel Lester, Amsterdam, is an inventor. His works consist of installations, sculptures, performances and films. Other activities include commissioned art in public space, physical structures and design. Open-ended, unresolved, seeking to keep mysteries alive and without explicit messages or singular ideas, his works propose ways to relate to the world, how it is (re-) presented, and what mechanisms constitute our perception and understanding of it.

MurMure (2014–2015) by Gabriel Lester features musicians playing hidden within a wall. As architecture merges with the human form, shifting contexts add complexity and create layered interpretations. A concert, an installation, and a film set at once, the work also challenges distinctions between creators and consumers. Variations include a string quartet, jazz trio, or local musicians.
